BWCA Wilderness Trip Basics - Clear Waters OutfittingAdult RecreationPrepare for your Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness adventure in a full-day, hands-on prep course. This comprehensive, instructor-led class equips beginners and experienced paddlers alike with the essential skills needed for a safe and successful canoe trip. Participants will actively practice: trip planning and packing; proper canoe paddling techniques; cooking meals over a campfire and stove; setting up and breaking down a campsite; key wilderness safety practices—including wearing life jackets, handling emergencies, weather awareness, and Leave No Trace principles; wilderness navigation basics, such as map reading, compass use, and locating portages. In a real-world environment, you'll build confidence and competence through direct hands-on experience. Whether you're planning your first Boundary Waters trip or refreshing your skills before heading out, this six hour course provides everything you need for secure, enjoyable wilderness travel. During this four-day camp, students will work as teams learning how to build and program a robot to complete challenges.
